Most weddings follow the tradition of the bride and groom keeping their distance for good luck. But for Mr and Mrs O’Bhate, that just wasn’t their style.
Instead, they kicked off their wedding day with something far more memorable - a bracing sea swim in Paignton, surrounded by their closest friends and family.
As the winter sun cast a golden glow over the waves, the group waded into the chilly water, laughter echoing through the crisp morning air - a refreshing way to shake off any pre-wedding nerves and embrace the day ahead. Spirits were high as everyone dried off and made their way back to Dartington Hall, where the big celebration awaited.

History and Romance in Harmony
From the coastline to the countryside, the wedding party arrived at Dartington Hall, a venue just as breathtaking as the occasion itself. Tucked away in the rolling Devon hills, this medieval estate is steeped in history and charm, with its towering stone walls, picturesque gardens, and a sense of timeless romance.

Inside the Great Hall, the scene was set for a magical winter ceremony. Candlelight flickered softly against the stone walls, casting a gentle glow. Seasonal florals tickled the air with their sweet fragrance while a soothing piano melody enhanced the cosy atmosphere.
As the couple stood before their loved ones, they exchanged heartfelt vows, their words reverberating through the grand hall. Every moment felt intimate and full of meaning, and when they sealed their promises with a kiss, the room erupted into cheers, marking a radiant start to the celebrations.
A Wedding Breakfast with a Personal Touch
With the formalities complete, it was time to raise a glass. The wedding breakfast was nothing short of a feast for both the eyes and the soul. The tables were adorned with bold shades of burnt orange, blush pink, and deep reds, setting a tone of warmth and welcome. Guests raised their glasses to the newlyweds with Dom Pérignonw while joyful chatter filled the air as they shared stories and memories.
To add a playful touch, a caricature artist, inspired by Quentin Blake’s whimsical style, made the rounds, sketching guests and capturing the essence of the day in a way that was as unique and delightful as the couple themselves.
Speeches followed - some heartfelt, others hilarious, all memorable. Each one celebrated the love story at the heart of the day, paving the way for an unforgettable night to come.
When the Dance Floor Came Alive
As the evening drew in, the atmosphere shifted from elegant to electric. Baby Guinness shots were passed around, cocktails flowed freely, and anticipation grew as the couple stepped onto the dance floor for their first dance. They’d chosen Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now,” and their masterfully choreographed routine had everyone applauding before they'd even reached the final step.
Then, The Cove Club took over. The six-piece band, with their powerhouse vocals, live saxophone, and keys, kicked off their set at 9pm, filling the dancefloor instantly. Their setlist - a blend of classic anthems and modern hits - kept pulses racing and the crowd singing along all night.
No one wanted the night to end. As the evening reached its peak, the newlyweds were hoisted onto their guests’ shoulders in a moment of pure elation. When The Cove Club wrapped up their final song to rapturous applause, a DJ set took over, seamlessly weaving in the couple’s personal song requests and a few festive favourites to add a little Christmas magic into the mix.
